Shopping Tips

Vienna is the shopping metropolis of Austria. Department stores, shopping streets, small boutiques and markets meet here.

Everything is included from freaky ideas to designer fashion and luxury labels.

Mariahilferstraße shopping street, Süd Shopping Center and Naschmarkt are famous.Luxury labels have settled in the Golden Quarter on Graben in the 1st district, where Kärtnerstrasse also invites you to go shopping.

Wien Mitte shopping center is located near the center.Small boutiques sell unique fashion in the 7th district of Neubau, especially around Spittelberg.

Naschmarkt is famous with its stalls, cafes and restaurants.

Opening Hours in Vienna

Shops in Vienna are generally open from Monday to Saturday, Sunday is a day off. Supermarkets open from 7:00 a.m., fashion shops from 9:00 a.m. Supermarkets close at 8:30 p.m. at the latest, sometimes as early as 7:00 p.m. Normal shops close at 20:00 at the latest.

Weekends: On Sundays in Vienna only supermarkets in train stations, the airport and in the 1st district are open.

Vienna is a capital with almost 2 million inhabitants. That's why the shopping streets, districts and centers are spread all over the city, there are over 100 pedestrian zones in Vienna. This means that a visit to the most important sights can also be easily combined with a short break from shopping.

Examples are Mariahilferstrasse near the Museums Quartier and Kärnterstrasse with the famous Hotel Sacher, which stretches from the Vienna State Opera to the Stephans Square.

What are the normal Opening Hours for shops in Vienna?

Shops in Vienna are open between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Supermarkets open from 7:00 a.m. and are open until a maximum of 8:30 p.m. Shopping centers and fashion retailers often do not open until around 9:00 or 10:00. A look at the exact opening hours of the shops on the Internet always pays off.

Can I shop On the weekend?

Shops in Vienna are generally closed on weekends. The only exception are supermarkets in train stations, for example at the Praterstern, Westbahnof, Hauptbahnhof, Franz-Josephs-Bahnhof and partly in the 1st district.
