Below is the schedule for Teacher Pre-Service week and the Systemwide Professional Development dates for the 2024-2025 school year. Additionally, information regarding teacher development plans and training is provided for your planning purposes. Please note the dates identified for School-Based Professional Development and those identified for Systemic Content. All training will be conducted in-person. Except for staff using leave time, staff should report to offices and schools, unless another location is designated for professional learning.

June 24 and 25, 2024 - Summer Professional Learning
The content of Summer Professional Learning provided to all teachers and paraeducators on June 24 and 25 is required.
- Paraeducators and teachers attending summer professional learning will be excused from and not need to participate in the in-person countywide professional study day during pre-service week on August 20, 2024. Instead, those teachers will be given the full day in their classroom to prepare for students.
- Paraeducators and teachers attending summer professional learning training will be released 3.5 hours early from school on October 3, 2024.
Make-Up Information and Days for Summer Professional Learning:
- Paraeducators and teachers unable to attend Summer Professional Learning will participate in the in-person countywide professional study day during pre-service week and the in-person sessions held on system-wide professional development day.
- August 20, 2024 - Pre-Service Week Professional Study Day
- October 3, 2024 - Systemwide Professional Development Day
Notes:
- Schools should plan to schedule time for individual teachers and collaborative planning time on October 3, 2024, and January 29, 2025. Specific details regarding the amount of time are forthcoming.
- All systemic content will be provided in a face-to-face format and scheduled for four hours. Additional time will be provided for individual teachers and collaborative planning time on systemic content PD days. Additional information, including the scheduling format, will be provided in the fall.
- Principals should schedule time during future Monday meetings to allow teachers who were observing holidays to access content training. In-person professional learning will be repeated on a different day so that those observing the holiday may attend.
- All resources for Professional Development Days from the Division of Curriculum and Instruction will be shared through Schoology Groups. Additional details on content training will be forthcoming from the Division of Curriculum and Instruction.
School Year 2024-2025 AFSCME and ESPBC Represented Employees
AFSCME Represented Employees
AFSCME represented 12-month employees shall be afforded the option to report to work or take the day off. Normal reporting times/work hours shall be observed.
For BCPS Systemwide Professional Development Days, all AFSCME 2nd shift building service staff are afforded the opportunity to start their shift at 10 a.m. If there are afternoon or evening events or activities on the below dates, employees may work with their supervisor and determine an agreed upon time that satisfies the needed support.
Those employees choosing to take the day off shall notify their supervisors 48 hours prior to their absence and shall advise how the absence is to be coded (e.g., urgent personal business, compensatory time, vacation, or floating holiday). AFSCME represented 10-month employees were not scheduled to work since students are not in school. Those bus drivers and attendants directed to work shall be paid for hours worked at their normal rate of pay and shall perform related duties or in-service training, as directed, and agreed to by the employee’s supervisor.
ESPBC Represented Employees
ESPBC represented 12-month employees shall have the option to report to work or take the day off. Normal reporting times/work hours shall be observed.
ESPBC employees may participate in supervisor approved off-site professional development activities, complete online professional development courses offered on Schoology of their choosing or recommended by their administrator/supervisor, fulfill mandatory online training requirements (e.g., principal/supervisor directed, Safe Schools, etc.), take part in team meeting(s) with classroom teacher(s) for lesson planning, or develop a work plan in collaboration with educators for approval of their principal/supervisors.
Teacher Development Plans (TDPs)
BCPS recognizes the importance of setting professional goals and the role leaders have in supporting them. Teachers are encouraged to use the Framework for Teaching to reflect on personal professional practice. However, formalized TDPs are not required this school year.
Teacher Evaluations and Observations
The BCPS teacher evaluation system will be implemented in accordance with Article XIII of the TABCO Master Agreement.
End-of-Marking Period & Parent Conference Days
End-of-Marking Period Days and Parent Conference Days are scheduled as full duty days in schools/offices for all teachers.
