The L.A. Conservancy offers a delightful summer time machine in the form of classic films, screened inside Downtown’s grand old movie palaces throughout the month of June. Most screenings include a special introduction and a post-film Q&A, and there are also ticket bundles that add in a proper theater tour.

Casa Vega’s 68th x Caesar’s 100th Anniversary

Beloved Valley Mexican restaurant Casa Vega is 68 years young, and what better way to celebrate than with a little cross-border culinary action? On Tuesday, June 18th, the Sherman Oaks institution will host Michelin-recognized chef Javier Plascencia of Caesar’s in Tijuana, birthplace of the Caesar salad. (Yes, really.) The double anniversary event will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Caesar salad, which was allegedly invented by Italian chef Caesar Cardini on July 4, 1924, with a joint prix-fixe menu. In addition to the original tableside Caesar salad, you’ll be able to enjoy Peruvian bay scallop ceviche, plus your choice of entrée and dessert. (Vegetarian options are also available.) One drink and a commemorative T-shirt are also included in each $125 meal ticket.

Director Yuval Sharon’s six-years-in-the-making production connects the stories ofClaudio Monteverdi’s 1643 Italian opera L’incoronazione di Poppea (The Coronation of Poppea) with a world premiere production of W.E.B. Du Bois’s 1924 sci-fi short storyThe Comet; both unfold at the same time on a turntable that’s been split into two. The Industry has staged itspiecesin carsand on a mountaintop; this time around, you’ll catch them at the Geffen Contemporary at MOCA, from June 14 through 23.
