Who We Are
The Office of Information Service (OIS) is an internal office that serves the various program offices within the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS). Our role is to optimize the use of information systems across ODJFS so that each office within ODJFS can fulfill its mission to the residents of Ohio.
What We Do
As an internal office within ODJFS that serves other offices within ODJFS, we strive to optimize technology and the operational use of technology. We
- focus on strategic planning of IT investments to achieve results and value
- assist in the selection, management, and optimization of IT infrastructure, hardware, and software,
- build and procure software applications to enable key services to Ohioans,
- oversee the use of information technology so that we achieve security, privacy, and stability,
- govern the execution of IT projects and IT initiatives to achieve effective and efficient results,
- oversee the utilization of IT vendors to ensure effectiveness and efficiency, and
- oversee the IT budget and utilization of funds for IT to achieve value, stewardship, and return on investment.
Mission
The mission of the Office of Information Services (OIS) is to optimize the use of information technology so that each office within ODJFS can achieve its objectives in providing critical services to Ohioans.
We focus on understanding the services that ODJFS provides to the public and subsequently align our efforts to those goals. We focus on good stewardship of funds, technology, and technology vendors. We focus on using technology to achieve operational excellence and value for the Ohio public.
How We Help
OIS is organized into divisions. Each division focuses on and delivers high proficiency within a domain. Each team carefully collaborates and coordinates with each other.
Business Alignment & Information Technology Strategy
The Business Alignment and IT Strategy (BAITS) pillar focuses on the alignment of IT with the ODJFS mission. This entails understanding the programs, products, and services that ODJFS offers to Ohioans and then aligning information technology efforts toward those services so that information technology is used to enable, innovate, and optimize those services for Ohioans.
The BAITS and OIS mission is to “consistently deliver reliable, innovative and high-quality business-focused results”.
The BAITS delivers results through four units:
- Business Relationship Management Office,
- Project Management Office,
- Vendor Management Office, and
- Budget Management Office.
County Operations delivers customer-centric technical and informational support to 88 counties and 170 agencies.Our commitment to technical support services in combination with strong customer outreach programs ensure we understand and address the unique operational needs of each county, providing effective technology solutions and empowering our county partners to excel in their service to the local community.

Data Privacy
The Department strives to safeguard personal information it collects from individuals and ensure that it is only accessed and used for permissible and lawful purposes. The tools the Department utilizes to accomplish this include policy development and implementation, risk assessments, and staff training. The Office of Information Services works with program and support staff across the Department, as well as with the Ohio Department of Administrative Services, to effectively manage privacy risks and promptly deploy solutions when concerns and challenges arise.
Information Technology Security & Risk Management
- The Security and Risk Management Unit is the operational lead for Ohio Job and Family Services cybersecurity for critical infrastructure security and cyber resilience.
- The mission of Security and Risk Management is to build the capacity to defend against cyber-attacks and prepare for, respond to, and recover from them.
- The SRM team does this through policies, procedures, and technology to assess, contain, and control any real or perceived threats or vulnerabilities.
Infrastructure & Operations
- Infrastructure and Operations, (I&O) broadly oversees the administration and management of technology, information, and data for the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS).
- Infrastructure and Operations governs the platforms and environments on which the ODJFS information technology exists and operates. I&O manages the key ITIL practices that involve the planning, selection, implementation, configuration, monitoring, operational support, and optimization of environments, networks, on-premise services, cloud-based services, storage management, data repositories, software, desktop computers, and IT devices. Infrastructure and Operations also monitors the stability, performance, continuity, and cost-effectiveness of OIS IT systems.
- Infrastructure and Operations focuses on alignment with the State of Ohio initiatives, the best practices of other state government agencies, the best practices within the private sector, and continual innovation and the future.

In Innovative Solutions and Services, we provide technical solutions to solve business problems. We work with our business partners to understand solution requirements and develop innovative solutions using top technologies. We are a team of skilled software developers, architects, business analysts, and quality assurance specialists.
